Fourth grade is an exciting and fun year at Hollister School. Here are just a few things we learn about:
Fourth grade math covers place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, geometry and statistics. Our new curriculum, Bridges, allows us to discover new math procedures.
The language arts program includes writing personal narratives, summaries, opinion writing, and responses to literature. Some of the books we will read are Two Years Before the Mast,Tales of Fourth Grade Nothing, Island of the Blue Dolphins, and Holes.
Our science curriculum is divided into three units; life, earth, and physical science, and it includes lab projects with our science specialist.
Fourth grade social studies is all about California. We will study about the geography of the state, state symbols, explorers, missions, and the gold rush.
Computer skills developed will include keyboarding, word processing and powerpoint. We have an exciting new program called Genius Hour. Once a week we explore and create Snap Circuits.
Some fourth grade highlights are the overnight trip on Tall Ship, class trip to La Purisima Mission in Lompoc, Lotusland, bike to Goleta beach, and our gold rush simulation day.
